After the first few weeks I was inundated with advice about getting baby to follow a schedule. I ready the baby whisper and felt like my "accidental" parenting (as the book describes anything which differs from her set routine) was surely damaging us both. After a few miserable weeks, I told my mother how I felt like a failure and she said "why do you need a schedule? This is when you can take advantage how portable she is!" - she was so right. After this I was able to start enjoying my maternity leave. We went to classes, visited friends and family and met other mums for coffee and lunch, as long as I had nappies and a spare outfit or two (essential in the early days) I knew she would be fine, feeding and sleeping when she needed. Eventually she has worked out her own rough routine, the times vary a lot from day to day but it works for us. My only regret is that I bought the kindle version of that book so I can't have the satisfaction of throwing it out the window! I struggled for weeks trying to make him fit the schedule in the book. In the end I threw the book in the bin, and guess what? As soon as I stopped trying to make him follow a schedule, he fell into his own very predictable routine! With baby two, I was too busy to worry about or even notice whether she was in a routine or not ;-) Great article :-)Becshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04114575273686093418noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102141287849407838.post-37103509181882274342011-10-05T07:16:01.928+01:002011-10-05T07:16:01.928+01:00Great article. It worked well for us and gave/gives us the flexibility to do what we need to :)Melissa Gijsbershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15027810729828362064noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102141287849407838.post-3001033308429486052011-10-05T04:52:21.819+01:002011-10-05T04:52:21.819+01:00And then there's daylight saving... showing u...And then there's daylight saving... showing us all that the baby is in charge of our hours, not a clock.

Little Miss will rub her eyes when she is tired, will wake up with the sun & cry for food when hungry. Why my 3yr old and 10 month old were even up until 10pm for a one off family get together a couple of weeks ago, and that was after being up late the previous night flying to the get together. They just napped more the following couple of days and went to sleep a bit earlier and, shockingly, were just fine.Tr8cehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00655347861709230086noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102141287849407838.post-40809824211376735272011-10-05T01:18:08.870+01:002011-10-05T01:18:08.870+01:00Love love love! Mondays breastfeeding group is at a different time to Wednesdays baby sensory and Thursday's new mums group. I struggle to follow a set schedule every day. Maybe that's not such a bad thing!Snowflake Girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12310724460184771818noreply@blogger.com
